The members of Freshwater Surf Life saving Club are proud of the fact that our Centenary Year will commence in December 2007. A History Book covering our first 100 years has been written, and will be available for readers from the end of November 2007. The highly illustrated 256 page book contains over 300 photos and covers the fascinating early days of the Harbord district and the Club, including major milestones and achievements. For example, did you know that Freshwater hosted Olympic swimming champion and board riding pioneer, Duke Kahanamoku in 1915, and was the home of Australia's first jet powered rescue boat? The book chronicles the valiant rescues, competitive highlights, social and community activities, key personalities, triumphs and tragedies of 100 years of history. Freshwater has always been one of Surf Life Saving's premier clubs, and the History Book gives a fascinating insight into this great volunteer, community service organization. The book also lists key Office Bearers; Bravery and Australian award recipients; Life Members; Australian and State Champions; Australian SLSA and Olympic representatives; World War participants; major sponsors and the names of all past and present members as indicated by existing records. The book costs $35 plus $10 postage and handling.
