Probationary Members
Probationary membership is the designation of any person for the time period between applying for membership and gaining of an award.
Junior Activity (“Nipper”) Members
Junior Activity members (Nippers) need to be between 5 and 13 years of age by 30 September. Activities are organized in aged groups ranging from 5/6 to Under 14 with formal competition commencing in the Under 8 age group.
Cadet Members
Cadet members are between the ages of 13 and 15 and need to obtain the Surf Rescue Certificate and pass an annual proficiency test. They are also required to undertake patrol duties.
Active Members
Active members aged 15 years or more who have achieved the Bronze Medallion. Active members are required to undertake patrol duties each season and pass an annual proficiency test. There are two categories of Active member – juniors (15 -18 years) and seniors (18 years plus) which are calculated based on the person’s age as at 30 September. Active members have full voting rights at all meetings of the club.
Past Active Member
Active members who have been active patrol members for a minimum of three (3) years may be granted Past Active membership by the Executive Committee. Past Active members may have club voting rights at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
Reserve Active Members
Reserve Active membership may be granted to active members who have satisfactorily completed (from the gaining of the Bronze Medallion) at least eight (8) years of patrol and Club obligations. Reserve Active membership is not automatic and needs to be approved by the Executive Committee. It can also be granted under exceptional circumstances irrespective of the years of service.
Reserve Active members shall perform a minimum of patrols as per current requirements of Surf Life Saving Australia and further duties at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
Reserve Active members are required to complete the annual proficiency test. Reserve Active members have full voting rights at all meetings of the club.
Long Service Members
Long Service Membership may be granted to members who have completed ten (10) years active service (i.e. patrol duties) or have completed eight (8) years active service plus four (4) years reserve active service.
Long Service members may be exempted from all patrol duties. If they wish to compete for the club in carnivals, they must pass the annual proficiency test. Long Service members have full voting rights at all meetings of the club.
Associate Members
Associate Membership is available to anyone 35 years of age or older who may or may not hold an SLSA award. The membership fees for Associate Membership are more than fees for other categories of membership. Associate Members do not have voting rights at club meetings.
Award Members
Award Membership may be granted to persons who hold an SLSA award of one, or more, of the following designations: Radio Award/s, Resuscitation Certificate, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate or First Aid Certificate (or equivalent).
Award members may be called upon to perform patrol and/or other club obligations consistent with their qualifications. Award members do not have voting rights at club meetings.
General Members (Nipper Insured Parents)
General Membership (Nipper Insured Parent) is available to parents of junior activity members. The membership provides them with SLSA insurance coverage when helping out with junior activity or general club activities. General Members do not have voting rights at club meetings.
Honorary Members
Honorary Membership may be approved by the Executive Committee to anyone whether or not they hold an SLSA award. The Mayor of the local council and members of the junior activities committee who are not otherwise a member of the club are considered honorary members.
Life Members
Life Membership of the club may be granted to any member who has rendered distinguished or special service to the Club. Life members have full voting rights at club meetings.
