Membership Categories

Probationary Membership

Probationary membership should be the designation of any person for the time period between applying for membership and gaining of an award and/or the granting of a formal category of membership by the Committee.

Junior Activity ('Nipper') Membership

A Junior Activity ('Nipper') member shall be a person who shall be a minimum age of seven (7) years up to a maximum of thirteen (13) years on a seasonal basis and such person shall be required to gain the relevant qualifications as laid down by Surf Life Saving Australia.

Cadet Membership

A Cadet member shall be a member of the age qualification as defined in the SLSA manual and who has obtained the Surf Rescue Certificate in that season or has passed an annual proficiency test.

Active Membership

An Active member shall:

  • Be a Bronze Medallion holder
  • Fulfill patrol and Club obligations
  • Qualify in an annual proficiency test each season, unless the member
    has obtained his Bronze Medallion in that season

Reserve Active Membership

  • Reserve Active membership may be granted to active members who have satisfactorily completed (from the gaining of the Bronze Medallion) at least eight (8) years of patrol and Club obligations. Reserve Active membership shall not be automatic, but shall be granted by resolution of the Executive Committee (Section 12(a)).
  • Reserve Active members shall perform a minimum of patrols as per current requirements of the Association and further duties at the discretion of the Executive Committee (Section 12(a)).
  • Reserve Active members shall complete the annual proficiency test.
    Note: Reserve Active Membership may be granted under exceptional circumstances to Active members irrespective of years of service.

General Membership

  • General Membership may be granted to persons who may or may not hold an SLSA award.
  • General Members shall not hold Club voting rights unless elected to an office or position that is provided with voting rights by the Constitution.
  • This membership is usually reserved for parent/guardian of a Junior Activity member (Nippers).

Long Service Membership

  • Long Service Membership may be granted to members who have completed ten (10) years active service or to members who have completed eight (8) years active service plus four (4) years reserve active service.
  • Such members may be exempted from all patrol obligations and may be granted other special privileges of membership if provided by this Constitution.

Award Membership

  • Award Membership may be granted to persons who hold an SLSA award of one, or more, of the following designations: Radio Award/s, Resuscitation Certificate, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate or First Aid Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Such members may be called upon to perform patrol and/or other club obligations within the ability of their qualifications.

Associate Membership

  • Associate Membership may be granted to persons who may or may not hold an SLSA award subject to approval by the Executive Committee.
  • Associate Members shall not have voting rights unless elected to an office or position that is provided with voting rights by the Constitution.
  • Associate Membership shall have a joining and/or annual membership fee substantially greater than fees for other categories of membership.

Honorary Membership

Honorary Membership may be granted to persons who may or may not hold an SLSA award. The Mayor and B Ward Councillors of the Warringah Council shall be granted honorary membership during the period they hold such office.

Life Membership

  • The Club shall have power at any Annual General Meeting to elect Life Members from amongst members who have rendered distinguished or special service to the Club. Life Membership shall be honorary and without obligation to perform active duties, but with all privileges of Active membership.
  • Nominations must be in writing, duly proposed and seconded, and approved by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the Executive Committee, and the nominee may then be admitted to Life Membership on a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote, of the members present and entitled to vote at the succeeding Annual General meeting. Voting shall be by secret ballot.
  • Should a nomination for Life Membership be unsuccessful in gaining the required approval of either the Executive Committee or the members present and entitled to vote at the succeeding Annual General Meeting, it shall then lapse for that year.
